Using a Cutting Machine for Cutting After Printing with the Printer

This section introduces how to perform printing and cutting using the XP-640 and the GR2-640/540 as an example. Media registration, setup and various adjustments differ depending on the printer model. See the User's Manual of the various printer models.

IMPORTANT

Cutter adjustment should be completed for the cutting machine in advance

When laminating, if the blade is not adjusted (cut force and amount of blade extension) to account for the thickness of the laminate, the petting-in amount will be reduced and it will not peel off the backing paper.

Procedure
Printer Operation
  1. Set up the media.
Load the media for printing, for example by turning on the heater.
  2. Perform [Nozzle Drop-out Test].
Ensure that no dot drop-out or dot displacement occurs. Perform various types of cleaning as necessary.
VersaWorks Operation - Printing
  1. Add the print data to the job list for the printer to use.
A cutting line (CutContour) should be included in the print data. For methods for adding cutting lines using VersaWorks, see the VersaWorks 7 First Step Guide.
  2. Perform Job Settings.
    1. Use one of the methods below to open the Job Settings window.
      • Double-click the job.
      • Right-click a job, and then click Edit Design - Settings.
      • With a job selected, click VW7-ICON_JobMenu1 on the left side of the job tool area, and then click VW7-ICON_Customize Settings.

    8. Select the checkbox for Use Custom Settings, and then specify at least 150 mm (5.91 in.) for Page Space.
Media will be fed during cutting, so the amount of margin required differs by printer model.
    9. Click OK to return to the main screen.
  3. Click Print.
Printing and sheet cutting are executed. When the Advanced Print Settings screen appears, specify the print count, and then clickPrint.

  4. Click VW7-ICON_CutControl Cut Controls.
  5. Select the following checkboxes as necessary.
    • Cut All Paths

Cuts along all lines (paths) drawn in vector format in the data. All paths will be recognized as cutting lines and will be cut regardless of whether they are drawn with the spot color (CutContour).

    • Cut Image Boundaries

Cuts the border of the job regardless of whether a cutting line is present. None, Normal Cut, and Perforated Cut are the available options. The generated border cutting line can be checked with the preview in the job settings window.

    • Cut Passes

Use this option to specify the number of cut passes when cutting thick media or hard media. Depending on the media, cutting multiple times with lower blade force may give more aesthetically pleasing results than cutting once with higher blade force.

    • Cutting Conditions Settings

The settings can be configured for Cutting Speed and other printer cutting conditions. To set cutting conditions, refer to "Configuring the Cutting Conditions" in the VersaWorks 7 Master Guide.

    • Execute PREFEED Operation

Feeds out media according to the size of the data sent from the computer, pulls the media back to the output-start location, and then performs output. The cutting quality is especially stable because the media is not forcefully pulled tight.

    • Conditions for Cutting Perforated Lines

Enables the setting of conditions for cutting perforated lines.

  6. Configure other settings such as the media settings if necessary.
  7. Click OK.
You will be returned to the main screen.
