About Spot Colors

Spot colors are special colors that are not process colors (CMYK). In this manual, "special mixture colors such as DIC and PANTONE," "colors for which a library has been created in VersaWorks," "Roland DG Corporation white, gloss, primer, and metallic silver inks," and "areas specified for variable printing" are called spot colors. The main features are shown below.

  • Special mixture colors such as DIC and PANTONE are used when specifying company image colors or similar colors. It is also possible to select a spot color from the color samples and specify the color that you want to express. VersaWorks converts the spot colors explained above to process colors for printing. However because spot colors that were converted to process colors are affected by the ink, media, and other factors, VersaWorks includes a function for adjusting the output color of spot colors.
  • VersaWorks includes "spot color libraries" for CMYK inks. There is also a separate color library for green, red, orange, and metallic silver inks. For gloss inks, texture and brio-coat libraries are also separately prepared. It is also possible to create and use newly arranged spot color libraries.
  • With a printer that includes white, gloss, primer, and metallic silver inks, it is possible to set these "named spot colors" when printing. Set spot colors are displayed as special items in the preview area.
  • With variable printing which replaces some characters and images one at a time, the replacement print area is specified using spot colors.
MEMO VersaWorks can only recognize spot colors in vector data. Colors used in raster data such as bitmap images cannot be recognized.
