Procedure
  1. Before inserting ink cartridges, be sure to gently shake each of them.

    The precipitation of the ingredients in the ink disables printing in normal color. Shake the ink cartridges so that the ink mixes well.

  2. Press [ENTER] when the following screen appears.
    The only ink type that you can select is "D-EA 4 COLOR."

  3. Press [◀] or [▶] to select "YES", and then press [ENTER].

  4. Follow the procedure below to perform manual cleaning.
    IMPORTANT

    Important notes on this procedure

    • To prevent the print heads from drying out, finish this procedure in 30 minutes or less. A warning beep sounds after 30 minutes.
    • Never use any implements other than the included cleaning sticks. Cotton swabs or other lint-producing items may damage the print heads.
    • Do not use cleaning liquid other than the included cleaning liquid.
    • Be sure to use new cleaning sticks. Reusing cleaning sticks will adversely affect the printing results.
    • Do not put a cleaning stick that has been used for cleaning into the cleaning liquid. Doing so will deteriorate the cleaning liquid.
    • Never rub the print head surface (nozzle surface).

    When an alarm sounds during cleaning

    • A warning beep sounds 30 minutes after operation starts. Stop work, close all the covers, and then press [ENTER] to end the manual cleaning mode. After that, restart the procedure from the beginning.
    1. When the following screen is displayed, open the right cover.

    3. The following screen appears, but continue performing the work without pressing [ENTER].


    4. Touch the location shown in the figure to discharge any static electricity.

    5. Moisten a new cleaning stick with the cleaning liquid.

      • Be sure to use one of the included cleaning sticks.
      • Do not use a previously used cleaning stick.
      • Do not put a previously used cleaning stick into the cleaning liquid.


    6. Clean the locations shown in the following figure.
      Be especially careful to clean away any fibrous dust (lint).
      • 6-(1): Wipe off wiper surfaces a and b with the cleaning stick.
      • 6-(2): Wipe off the area in the figure with a cleaning stick.
      • 6-(3): Use the wide surface of the cleaning stick, pressing the cleaning stick down while sliding between locations to clean up dirt.

    7. Grasping the part indicated by ①, open the flushing cover.

    8. While pressing the lock (①) down, open the wiper cleaner cover.

    9. Push the cleaning stick against the top and bottom surfaces of the wiper cleaner to apply the cleaning liquid.

    10. Suction out some cleaning liquid with the dropper, and then drip this cleaning liquid in one of the locations indicated in the following figure.

      Use the included dropper.

      Firmly squeezing the dropper and suctioning out the cleaning liquid () fills the dropper with enough cleaning liquid for one location. In each location, use all the suctioned out cleaning liquid. In this procedure, drip the cleaning liquid in three locations.

      Drip the cleaning liquid equally across the entire surface of . For , alternate between the sides of the wiper (a and b), dripping one drop into the grooves on each side at a time.

      IMPORTANT
      • A low amount of cleaning liquid in these locations may lead to poor printing quality.
      • When dripping the cleaning liquid, ensure that the tip of the dropper does not come into contact with the locations.

        If it does, wipe away any dirt from the tip of the dropper before the next time you suction out cleaning liquid.

    11. Close the wiper cleaner cover and the flushing cover.

    12. Moisten a new cleaning stick with the cleaning liquid.


    13. Clean the locations shown in the following figure.
      Be especially careful to clean away any fibrous dust (lint).

      1. Use the wide surface of the cleaning stick to wipe away any dirt from the edges and sides () of the head.

        Also wipe with the opposite, clean surface, ensuring that ink from the dirty surface does not adhere to the head.

      2. Use the wide surface of the cleaning stick to wipe away any dirt from the locations shown in the figure.

        If this area has any ink or cleaning liquid that appears likely to drip, use a dry cloth that is not fluffy to gently wipe away the ink or cleaning liquid.

    14. Close the right and left covers, and then press [ENTER].
      After the carriage returns to its original position, cleaning starts.
  5. When the following screen appears, check that the drain bottle is attached, and then press [ENTER].

    Repeat steps 7 and 8 twice.
    Both times, insert the cleaning liquid cartridges in the odd-numbered slots in the case of the ER-642 or in slots 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the case of the ER-641.
  9. When the screen shown below appears, remove the drain bottle and discard the discharged fluid.

    IMPORTANT

    Ink labels indicating colors are affixed to the machine. Insert each ink cartridge into the slot whose label matches the color of the ink in the cartridge. Inserting an incorrect cartridge may lead to breakdowns. Be careful not to insert the wrong cartridges. If you insert an incorrect cartridge by mistake, contact your authorized dealer.

  12. When the following screen appears, insert ink cartridges in the odd-numbered slots.

    This screen does not appear on the ER-641. Proceed to step 8.

  13. When the screen shown below appears during ink filling, remove the drain bottle and discard the discharged fluid.

  14. Quickly attach the emptied drain bottle to the machine once more, and then press [ENTER].
  15. When the following screen appears, perform manual cleaning again.
    MEMO Ink may adhere to the maintenance area on the right side of the machine during ink filling. In this situation, clean this area with a cleaning stick.

  16. Wait for ink filling to finish.
    When the following screen is displayed, filling with ink is finished.
