Printing While Changing Settings in Small Increments: Variation Job

The quality of the printed document is determined by a combination of factors such as the printing settings, printer, ink, and media. This can be used to generate a job whose settings change in small increments (Variation Job), output this job, and evaluate the output results of multiple generated variation jobs to quickly approach the desired quality.

The settings that can be changed are shown below.

    You can select from the reference, uncorrected color and eight corrected colors.

    You can select from five levels of emphasis for the specified color.

Step 1: Generate a Variation Job

Creating a variation job, whose settings change in small increments, allows for the following three types of comparisons. Select the desired comparison.

Compare Quality Settings

Procedure
  1. Select the job to set.
  2. Use one of the methods below to open the Generate Variation Job window.
    • Right-click the selected job, and then click Edit Design - Generate Variation Job.
    • Click VW7-ICON_JobMenu1 on the left side of the job tool area, and then click VW7-ICON_variation jobGenerate Variation Job.
  3. Select Compare Quality Settings, and then click Next >.
  4. Select the media to print on, and then click Next >.
  5. Select the printing quality, and then click Next >.
  6. Select the print mode to add to the variation job.
    The selected variation jobs are listed in the Variation Job field.
    MEMO A. and B. next to the print modes in the Variation Job field are displayed as variation A and variation B in the job list.
  7. Click OK.
    A variation job with the selected media and quality is generated in the job list.

Compare Color Management

Procedure
  1. Select the job to set.
  2. Use one of the methods below to open the Generate Variation Job window.
    • Right-click the selected job, and then click Edit Design - Generate Variation Job.
    • Click VW7-ICON_JobMenu1 on the left side of the job tool area, and then click VW7-ICON_variation jobGenerate Variation Job.
  3. Select Compare Color Management, and then click Next >.
  4. Select the Color Management setting.
    The selected Color Management settings are listed in the Variation Job field.
    MEMO
    • A. and B. next to the Color Management settings in the Variation Job field are displayed as variation A and variation B in the job list.
    • For the characteristics of color settings, refer to Selecting the Color Setting from the List.
  5. Click OK.
    A variation job with the selected Color Management setting is generated in the job list.

Compare Color Adjustment

Procedure
  1. Select the job to set.
  2. Use one of the methods below to open the Generate Variation Job window.
    • Right-click the selected job, and then click Edit Design - Generate Variation Job.
    • Click VW7-ICON_JobMenu1 on the left side of the job tool area, and then click VW7-ICON_variation jobGenerate Variation Job.
  3. Select Compare Color Adjustment, and then click Next >.
  4. Select one of the following options, and then click Next >.
    • Print Variation with Various Colors
    • Print Variation with Specific Color Densities
  5. Perform the following according to the selection.
    • When Print Variation with Various Colors is selected: Select the color (magenta, red, orange, etc.) to emphasize and Adjustment Level (+1 to +5).
    • When Print Variation with Specific Color Densities is selected: Select the density degree (+1 to +5) and Adjustment Color (magenta, red, orange, etc.).
    The selected color and emphasis level are listed in the Variation Job field.
    MEMO A. and B. next to the colors in the Variation Job field are displayed as variation A and variation B in the job list.
  6. Click OK.
    A variation job with the selected adjustment color is generated in the job list.

Step 2: Adjust the Printing Size and Print

Procedure
  1. Right-click the variation job, and then click Change Print Size.
  2. Change the following items if necessary:
  3. Click OK.
    The Change Print Size window closes.
  4. Perform printing.
    The set variation job is printed.
    MEMO The printing method depends on the variation type as shown below.
    • Vertical printing: Compare Quality Settings

      For the flat table model, switch the media for each variation job.

    • Horizontal printing: Compare Color Management, Compare Color Adjustment

      For the flat table model, switch the media for each page when multiple pages are being printed.

Step 3: Evaluate Variation Printing for Application to a Job

Procedure
  1. Determine the setting to apply from the printing result.
  2. Right-click the variation job, and then click Evaluate Variation Job.
  3. Select the determined variation, and then click OK.
    The settings of the selected variation are applied to the reference job.
    MEMO If the variation job is not required after application, select the Delete Variation Job after Applying Settings checkbox.
