Replacing the Print Head Caps

The print head caps (in two locations on the ER-642 and in one location on the ER-641) seal the nozzle surfaces of the print heads, preventing these surfaces from drying out and preventing dust from adhering to them.

When the following screen is displayed, it is time to replace the wiper.

IMPORTANT Put on protective eyewear and gloves before performing this work.

Procedure
  1. Press [ENTER] when the following screen appears.
    MENU_REPLACE_ CAP
  2. Remove any media.
  3. Press [MENU].
  4. Press [▼] several times to display the following screen.


  5. Press [▶] once, and then press [▼] several times to display the screen shown below.


  6. Press [▶] once, and then press [▼] several times to display the screen shown below.

  7. Press [ENTER].
    The print-head carriage moves to a location where print head cap replacement is possible, and the following screen appears.


  8. Open the right cover.

    Preparation is complete once the following screen is displayed.

    IMPORTANT

    Do not press [ENTER] at this stage. Press [ENTER] after replacing the print head caps.

    If you press [ENTER] at this stage, close the right cover according to the instructions on the screen, wait for the following screen to be displayed, and then press [ENTER] again.

  9. Touch the location shown in the figure to discharge any static electricity.

  10. Replace the print head cap.
    1. Grasp the protrusions on the print head cap (), release the two hooks while gently pulling up, and then remove the print head cap.
      IMPORTANT Ink may drip from the removed print head cap. Exercise caution to prevent this fluid from soiling your hands or the floor.

      To prevent ink from adhering to your hands, the machine, or the floor, cover the bottom surface of the removed print head cap with paper towels or something similar.


      Replace the print head cap

    2. Dispose of the removed print head cap.
    3. Wipe the print head cap case and the area around it free of dirt and ink with a cleaning stick or a cloth.

    4. Align the protrusions on the new print head cap () with the slots (), and then push the new cap in until it clicks.
      Gently pull the cap up and check that it is not removed.

      Align the protrusion with the slot and insert

    5. Repeat steps (1) to (4) to replace the other print head cap.
  11. Press [ENTER].
    The screen shown below appears.

  12. Close the right cover.
    When the following screen is displayed again, the print head cap replacement is finished.
