Printing with Special Colors

To use special colors in VersaWorks, first you must register a color (input color: RGB or CMYK) that you want to use as a special color and the color (output color: CMYK or Lab) after replacement in Special Color Settings. Then check the special color from Color Replacement - Special Color Settings and perform printing.

MEMO

When the special color function is used, it is possible to convert the input color to a CMYK value or Lab value, however when the output color after replacement is CMYK, it will not be the target for color matching.Characteristics of Each Matching Method

When printing a color (C: 0, M: 100, Y: 100, K: 0) through the regular workflow, color matching is performed and the ink used may not be exactly (C: 0, M: 100, Y: 100, K: 0). However when replacement with special colors is performed, the output colors are not targeted for color matching and printing will be performed using the specified CMYK values.

Step 1: Configure a Special Color

Make a note of the colors (RGB or CMYK) in the print data in advance. Then register the colors (CMYK or Lab) after replacement.
Procedure
  1. Click Edit - Special Color Settings on the menu bar.
The Special Color Settings window appears.
  2. Click VW7-ICON_CreateLibrary.
The Create New Special Color Library window appears.
  3. Enter the desired name in Special Color Library Name.
MEMO The set library name cannot afterwards be changed.
  4. Click OK.
A new special color library is created.
  5. Select the newly created special color library name and click VW7-ICON_Plus on the right side of the window.
The input colors and output colors are displayed.
  6. Click VW7-ICON_CMYK under Input Value to select CMYK as the color space.
  7. Set the CMYK values.
    Here, set the values to (C: 0, M: 100, Y: 100, K: 0).
  8. Click VW7-ICON_CMYK or VW7-ICON_CMYKplus under Output Value to select the color space.
  9. Set the color values.
  10. Click OK.
The settings are saved, and you are returned to the main window.
    IMPORTANT
    • Be sure to click OK. If you click Cancel, a confirmation window appears to confirm that you want to discard the changes. If you click Yes in this confirmation window, the window is closed and no changes made to the settings are saved.
    • As in this example, if you configure the output color as CMYK values, the color will be printed according to the density curve configured in the Media Explorer window (and not with the Matching Method setting). This method is useful in situations such as when you want to print a specific color without any impurities. But in this case, the ink limit does not apply. Be cautious of excessive ink usage when printing.
