Setting the Take-up Unit

When using a take-up unit, make sure the following settings match the take-up method and output method of the actual media.

The settings will have to be changed from the defaults when:

  • Just printing on weak media and not cutting.
  • Taking-up the media with inward curl.
  • When printing multiple colors of ink in layers such as by printing CMYK ink on top of white ink.
Procedure
  1. Tap AP-640_Panel_Icon_MENU.
  2. Tap Preferences - Take-up.
  3. Tap Take-up Method.
  4. Select the setting from those shown below and tap Save.
    Loose Winding

The media is taken up with some slack. This is suited to PVC and other such stiff or slippery media.

Tension WindingThe media is stretched and taken up. This is suited to tarpaulin and other such weak media and media that does not slip easily.
Batch Winding Media is taken up after the output of the piece of data is finished. This is suited to output data in which colors are printed in layers. *1
*1 No take-up is performed during output, so the media will touch the floor when data that is long in the feed direction is printed. Before printing, place clean cardboard or something similar on the floor to prevent the print surface from getting dirty.
    IMPORTANT

When the output data includes the cutting operation, this setting is ignored, and no take-up is performed until the output of the piece of data is finished.
