1. Prepare for powerful cleaning.

After determining the group of print heads on which to perform powerful cleaning, dispose of the discharged fluid to enable the machine to start powerful cleaning.
Procedure
  1. Press [FUNCTION].
  2. Press [▶].
  3. Press [▼] several times to display the screen shown below.


  4. Press [▶] to display the screen shown below.


  5. Check for the group with dot drop-out or dot displacement by viewing the results of the printing test.
    Missing blocks indicate dot drop-out. Collapsed or inclined blocks indicate dot displacement.

    The space from "A" to "B" is group A. The space from "B" to the right side is group B.

    The following figure shows the "TEST PRINT 2" test pattern.


    MEMO: If the printing-test results are difficult to interpret

    Examine the results from different angles in a well-lit location. They are visible using the reflection of the light.

  6. Select the group of print heads to clean.
    1. Press [◀] or [▶] to select the group of print heads that is not to be cleaned.


    2. Press [▲] or [▼] to get rid of the group display.


    3. Repeat steps (1) and (2) to display only the group of print heads that requires cleaning.
      Only the displayed groups will be cleaned. If A and B are displayed, they will both be cleaned.
  7. Press [ENTER].
    The screen shown below appears.


    MEMO:

    You can press [◀] on this screen to cancel powerful cleaning.

    Powerful cleaning consumes a lot of ink and overly frequent use will damage the print heads. Perform this cleaning only when it is required. If you display this menu by mistake, cancel the operation.

  8. Open the panel cover.
    Remove the screw on the top of the panel cover, tilt the panel cover forward slightly, and then pull out the panel cover in the direction indicated by the arrow.


  9. Remove the drain bottle and discard the discharged fluid.
    IMPORTANT:
    When you remove the drain bottle, a few drops of discharged fluid may come out of the machine. Exercise caution to prevent this fluid from soiling your hands.
    • Round drain bottle
    1. While supporting the drain bottle, turn it in the direction shown in the figure.
    2. Detach the drain bottle.


    : Upper limit. Discard the discharged fluid before this line is passed.
    • Square drain bottle
    1. Push down on the opening of the drain bottle.
    2. While pushing down on the opening, slide the bottle to the front, ensuring that the bottle stays on the bottom plate.
      Tilting the drain bottle too much to the point that it comes free of the bottom plate may lead to discharged fluid spilling out.
    3. Detach the drain bottle.


    IMPORTANT:
    Tilting the drain bottle too much may lead to discharged fluid spilling out. Slide the drain bottle while ensuring that it stays on the bottom plate.


  10. Wipe away any discharged fluid that has dripped onto the outside of the drain bottle.
  11. Quickly attach the drain bottle to the machine once more.
    • Round drain bottle
    1. While supporting the drain bottle, turn it in the direction shown in the figure to attach the bottle.


    • Square drain bottle
    1. Set the drain bottle in place, and then push down on the opening of the bottle.
    2. While pushing down on the opening, slide the bottle to the back, ensuring that the bottle stays on the bottom plate.


    3. When the drain bottle reaches the wall, remove your hand.
      Point: Push the drain bottle all the way to the back, ensuring that the opening does not get caught on the frame (A).


    4. Check that the drain bottle has been pushed all the way to the back and does not move.
      If the drain bottle is not in the correct position, the drain hose will be misaligned, which may lead to discharged fluid spilling out.
    IMPORTANT:

    If the message "EMPTY DRAIN BOTTLE" is displayed even after you have attached the drain bottle, the drain bottle may not have been set in place correctly.

    Remove the drain bottle, and then attach it again.

  12. Close the panel cover.
    Catch the panel cover pins on the notches, and then attach the panel cover.
